I bought a pro account because our site users are very thrilled about this. We’ve done two sessions so far, and despite the growing pains, everyone had a blast and is excited about where this was going.

Glad to hear it andrew, We hope to continue offering a awesome product 🙂

What? Give us our old chat back! Pilgrim

  4. Posted May 31, 2009 at 1:05 am | Permalink

I’m with Andrew – bought pro too. However, moderator features need to be implemented. The Pro owner needs to be able to control his own room regardless of who might be called the room starter.

This could possibly be a replacement for our current system, but as it stands I’m not sure it’s ready yet…

    1. Where are my old chat rooms?

    2. How can I launch a chat room with a given username?

    3. How much costs a “Pro Membership”?

Almost bought the Pro version… but:
1 – we’ve found no indication we can preset & fix the nickname to the username copied from our SocNetw site.
2 – we like to white label – our users are already overloaded with brands and logo’s
3- remove the tinychat url: we only like users to enter via our site and not via the url (our SocNetw is business/private)

    After that in future:

4- we would like to scan the chats for some product words, and display relevant ads or info

You can preset the nickname via /roomname?n=bob

Can be done via the embed

Can be done via the embed

Can be done, but not likely any time soon

Sounds good… but can you give example of the embed code? Or link to the help pages how to do this?

Dont over do it with features please! What makes it great is how simple it is.

  12. Posted June 3, 2009 at 11:46 pm | Permalink

Looks good, just a couple of glitches that I spotted that aren’t mentioned in this post (you may have noted them elsewhere)

    1. When joining a room (the digg one) I kept getting a Connecting in … countdown that reached zero and repeated ad nauseum. I presume that this was when the room hit a capped user number, but some information on screen would be useful.

    2. When signing up for a Pro account you are asked to give up your e-mail address and a password before there is *any* indication of pricing and payment method. Sorry this is a no-no for me. Pricing indication first please.

Keep up the good work, it looks great.

Hey guys, just tried out tinychat after being linked to it from LongZheng.

I love the ability to do multi-person chat, performance was pretty choppy though.

What up/down stream bandwidth do you recommend users have ?

I’d recommend holding off on purchasing Pro until the developers see fit to offer some sort of control panel to the OWNER of the pro subscription.

Moderator control and room control needs to be manageable by the owner, NOT the first person in the room.

  15. Posted June 4, 2009 at 8:46 pm | Permalink

Love to see a way to limit the amount of people on video at one time… say, for example, if you wanted just one person on video and the rest on chat…?

  16. Posted June 4, 2009 at 8:48 pm | Permalink

also, does pro offer the ability to have more than 100 people in chat?

See the features in the free version? That’s exactly what you get in Pro. I wound up cancelling my Pro account.

There are no room controls, no functional moderator controls.

Okay there was one feature with Pro that is not in the free version. You can have 5 password protected rooms with Pro. Is that worth $15/mo? Probably not.

  18. Posted June 6, 2009 at 6:41 am | Permalink

OK, in lack of no answers, killing the old chat rooms, and the fact, that “Tinychat” is not any longer a tiny chat, I have programmed my own little chat, with a little help of PHP and JavaScript.

So it’s tome to say goodbye!

I’m still not able to broadcast myself. There is a bug:

When you start broadcasting yourself, Flash plugin prompt for authorization request. At this point I cannot click on Allow or Deny.

I’m Using Ubuntu linux 9.04 and Firefox.

I’m only able to login (using my Twitter account) and chat, but if I cannot Allow the use of webcam I cannot broadcast mic/cam.

Could you please fix this? Thanks for your service!

Folks, you HAVE to fix this star issue, we get kicked out and/or a 10 second boot w/countdown clock and I come back in and THE ONE person that cannot/should not have the star has it. AND I have no way of removing it from her or removing her from the chat room.

I’m not paying for a room (so to speak) until you fix the pm issue and a few other issues.

Now I have to change the room name *again* and send out emails.

What is the 10 second count down we’re getting on a regular basis now? Not only is it annoying -we’re all kicked out and forced to wait 10 seconds until rejoining- it makes the FIRST IN THE CHANNEL issue all that more important to fix.

FIRST in gets the star not the person who SHOULD be controlling the room.

When may we expect any fixes or feed back from you?

But right now the tiny chat website and all my rooms are down?

I need to know how long for ?

Do i need to re upload our old chat till you fix this? how long? please get back to me,

So far I am very excited about your product. You have put together a really good idea and it works well.

    Suggestions for you guys…

You have absolutely no info about your product other than the home page, which is more of an advertisement. It’s going to be hard for anyone to want to use your product when they don’t know how. Even just a FAQ would be better than nothing, but a “how to” would be cooler. Right now you have to hover and click to see what all is possible (like full screen).

There is no way to explore the benefits of pro membership without paying. You could offer a lot more info about pro, or at least finish the sentences on the “info” popup for it.

You can only pay with google checkout? This is frustrating because you have only ONE method of purchase. You don’t even have the most common internet”check out” method Paypal.

Only one choice for subscribing will get you less customers and less money. Take me for example. I want to set up a high quality one time private chat room for a family meeting. I would gladly pay for this with a one time fee, but my only option is to set up a monthly subscription at $15 a month. How about a Day fee? Even if you charged a one time fee of $1 per day for this (which would probably sell like crazy for web meetings) you would be doubling the amount of money from someone paying $15 a month (taking 15 divided by 30 and getting 50 cents per day, although I’m sure I’d hear the argument that 15 is 14 more than 1, that’s why you give us that option too), as well as it is infinitely more money than someone like myself saying “$15??!! F that, I just want to do One HQ Web conference.” Or a credit system, or even at least the option to only pay for ONE month, that whole reoccurring thing is gonna scare off a lot of people, or or or anything other than that ONE, expensive to the masses, option.

So after I wrote all that I wanted to double check myself, and it looks like you just launched this project. And are working hard at keeping up with the reasons for people to want to use it, or the main focus seems to be your product.

The only thing I can say to that is… Make sure you aren’t forgetting about all the people that could be giving you money right now if you just implemented these suggestions.

I know this is easy to say for me cause I’m not trying to get a new business off the ground. But because I believe you have a great product I’m taking my time to write this email with hopes that the next time I check back on you guys I’ll want to give you my money instead of write you an email for an hour about why I didn’t.

    Good Luck 🙂

    J M

PS: I hope you realize how amazing it would be if nobody HAD to use Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger (ok Live Messenger), ICQ, etc, etc, etc (which is a pain to get everyone on the same software/program)? You have a product that can connect EVERYONE. No walls. I just set up a chat room and send out my link however I want, and since I already have email with all my contacts, I just use that. So many people would give you small amounts of money to use the pro version in short bursts, and feel good about it. Everyone would win 🙂

Hi – just found TinyChat, and have a couple questions.

    1. I can’t find any documentation for it
    2. How do I make the initial chat room open with more lines on the screen? As few as there are now will scroll too fast for people to use if it gets even a dozen people in there.
    3. How much is the Pro version, and besides a password, and some video extras, is there anything else it gives me?
    4. Can I host it at my own site, or does it always go through yours?

WHAT THE HELL is up with the porn ads/adult chat ads on my room sidebar?

NOT APPROPRIATE, you approve of porn? This is a place for people to chat safely, not attract losers and trolls.

Don’t blame google, YOU put this on your site.

I’m having the same problem as Avik. Currently using Jaunty (Ubuntu 9.04), and I can’t get into my chatroom. Counts down endlessly…

If I boot into Vista, I have no problems getting in, and I know that there are less than 25 people in chat at any given time.

I’ve even tried installing the Seamonkey browser … And it does the same thing.

    Any ideas?
