IP Bans now active

Just a small note –

Any bans you initiate from this point forward will be IP based vs cookie based. All bans expire after 24 hours on non-pro rooms.

The good news is that this should stop all “trolling” on rooms, as they will be unable to rejoin unless they manage to change their IP.

    ciao a tutti.

    grazie e buon lavoro.

I had a chat room last night that was religious in nature. But some goof-offs came in and started doing promiscuous and sexually explicit things on their webcams. I tried to ban them as the moderator/starter of the room, but TinyChat wouldn’t do anything. Neither clicking “ban” nor using the text command “/ban [username]” would work. It was simply unresponsive.

It was a really bad first-experience with TinyChat.com, as you can tell.

I like the idea of IP bans, however some people actually “stole” our room. My friends and I have been using one room for a long time and someone bought a tinychat account and grabbed our room. When we tried to enter, we were banned. I propose that for the pro accounts you can only get rooms that have not been in use for a week.

il primo che entra in room diventa admin…

    non va bene per niente

    e se banna tutti ?

    puo’ bannare anche me

come si puo’ amministrare una chat cosi’?

As it stands now, the tinychat platform is NOT secure. If you need a private, secure environment to collaborate in, this is NOT the place right now. I was collaborating with some other educators last week and it quickly became infested with trolls and we were unable to ban them. Additionally, I have a “pro” account with I pay $15 a month for and supposedly allows me to create private, password protected rooms. Even this private, password protected room that I created under my pro account was infested.

@Tinychat – growing pains are understandable, but how about being transparent and open and making regular posts about your challenges and progress? You should be blogging your processes, both good and bad, on a daily basis during this challenging time. You have educators, students, and a host of others who want to use this platform securely and safely to communicate and collaborate. PLEASE be open and transparent about the current challenges with the tinychat platform and environment.

lots of problems with trolls for me recently too, infact some one got the star and kicked me from my own pro account room today ,
but to be fair to tiny chat when theres a problem they work hard to fix it fast, for it example the probs i had today have been sorted after a quick email to tiny.

I agree with the post above though i would also like to be more in the picture and have a better idea of whats going on.

I had a problem with my chatroom last night. one of my guest was banned and couldn’t get into my chatroom and there was no way for me to unban her. Aren’t there commands or features that I could use to reverse the ban?

I need to resolve this issue before thurday evening as I have another chat then. Can someone please help.

Hey, been using the tiny chat rooms for a bit of time and have to say it’s pretty nifty. As long as you’re not running major applications, the rooms are virtually lag-less. The Web cam quality is fantastic compared to other webcam chats.

Our host is currently using it on his site and it runs like a dream. The only criticisms I have are:

    A) The private messaging system is archaic. It’s considerably inconvenient to use and would be better replaced with a pop-up box for pm’s so its separate from the main chat. That way if someones afk, they can see the private message when they get back.

    B) Having the ability to close someone’s cam without there being a black box on the dock (dock is lingo for the lineup of cams) would be nice. Also, it would be nice if more then 12 people could be docked. So lets say there’s 15 people in the room on cam, I could click out of 3 and replace them on the dock with the others.

    C) It would be a lot more convenient if there could be more then one operator at a time. We don’t go public but when it happens we get a lot of fappers/trolls. It’d be nice if the main operator could mod people just in case they’re not there or to keep control of the room.

    D) I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this who has more then one cam, but when you broadcast Tinychat grabs ALL of your cams and turns them on. Even if you stop broadcasting the cams remain on and it’s excruciatingly creepy.

If you guy’s can manage to incorporate these little thing’s, it would make tinychat a master piece. 😉

If you need any suggestions, comments, or help, tiny-folk shoot me an e-mail and I’ll help.

hahaha, they kind of mentioned the vulnerabilities already. Anyone with half a brain can do it. It’s simple to do but what exactly do you accomplish getting continuously kicked and having to jump through hoops if you’re just going to look like a loser?
